Not of This World

Not of This World by Danzig!

The VaM-style spell today is Not of This World - the title coming from this song by Danzig!

Crooning seductive black - ups and downs and thoroughfare - Man, this album kicks ass!

Lots of tracks off Danzig's self titled first album are great spells - And I am 100% certain all the albums Danzing have made have spells on them, but I haven't listened to the songs yet - I have been saving them for later and just listening to the self-titled album.

Here are the other good spells on their first album - Twist of Cain, Soul on Fire, Am I Demon, Mother, Possession, End of Time, The Hunter, and Evil Thing.

Good prospective spell titles from the albums I have not listened to include - Snakes of Christ, Killer Wolf, Her Black Wings, Devil's Plaything, 777, Godless, Bodies, How the Gods Kill, Dirty Black Summer, Left Hand Black, Heart of the Devil, Brand New God, Little Whip, Cantspeak, Dominion, Son of the Morning Star, Invocation, 7th House, Blackaciddevil, Sacrifice, Serpentia, Come to Silver, Power of Darkness, Ashes, Five Finger Crawl, Firemass, Cold Eternal, Unendlich, Black Mass, Naked Witch, Halo Goddess Bone, Wotans Possession, SkinCarver, Circle of Snakes, 1000 Devils Reign, Black Angel White Angel, Hammer of the Gods, Rebel Spirits, Black Candy, Deth Red Moon, Ju Ju Bone, Night Star Hel, Black Laden Crown, Eyes Ripping Fire, Skulls and Daisies, and Pull the Sun.

Whew, that's quite a lot!

This spell was also heavily influenced by the art and effect of the Magic the Gathering card Not of this World, the art is by Izzy Medrano - Great art always from Izzy!

 Here are the excellent lyrics!

Not of this worldAnd nothing bites like I doNothing screams out loudIn this empty nightNothing can keep me from you
And you think that you knowThe reason I'm aliveTruth is you onlyKnow the lies
Not of this worldAnd nothing can hold it backI am the dawn upon your bloody beachCome to pass
Not of this worldFor I am nothing knownWhen the seasons shiftThey call my nameTo carry me home
And you think that you knowThe reason I'm aliveTruth is you only know the liesAnd I feel all the thingsYou could never understandChoose where you standAm I mortalAre youMan
Not of this worldNothing bites like I doNothing screams out loudIn this empty nightNothing can keep me from you
Choose where you standAm I mortalAre youManYea
Not of this worldFor I am nothing knownWhen the seasons shiftThey call my nameTo carry me home

Ok - here is the spell's effects!

Not of This World

Duration: Instantaneous

Range: Observable Action

This spell must be cast in response to an action.

A crackling black blast – a rippling white flag – a red shimmer of electrical excitation – a yellow tsunami of pine needles – a blue point out of many, like a constellation – all these are possible forms that this spell might take.

Every caster will have some different visual and technical effect – but the spells effect is always the same – a complete denial of something.

When Not of This World is cast, it counters or neutralizes target action.

The form this spell takes is unique to the action it is countering. A flame might be countered with a jet of water or a gust of wind or a stream of foam, and all actions have a counter, these are determined on a case-by case basis by the referee. The form emerges from a logical dimension it would normally occupy.

Miscast Table

1 – The caster ceases to be of this world – and fades away into obscurity in 1d4 segments.

2 – The counter takes an organic form, and in unpleasant and disgusting – the counter is a now-permanent appendage on the caster’s form.

3 – Things that are not of this world sense the spell being cast – and begin to gate in to rescue their brethren. Basically have inter-dimensional alien/undead/demons show up and attempt to abduct the caster.

4 – The action that was targeted by Not of this World is aided, not avoided – and will automatically succeed.

5 – Something slipped in from somewhere else – have some kind of being gate in from a dimension where the spell’s effect would logically come from.

6 – The caster roils and bubbles like a pot of oatmeal – their possessions and physical form melding in a mesmerizing and cataclysmic display of otherworldly meatgrinder mess. They then take on the form and abilities of the most common intelligent species that exist in the dimension the counter would have most likely originated from after 1D8 rounds of re-knitting matter.

7 – The caster explodes like a pressure-cooked hot-dog – and their skeleton flies into the form of a man – a twisting whirling mess of bones that will immediately begin to flee. It knows nothing and is very confused.

8 – Whatever form the counter takes is malignant – and it will counter the targeted observable action – and then linger and attempt to do more – possibly harming the caster or the rest of the party.

9 – Tentacles pour out of a gap behind the behind of what rounds corners and dodges gaps. The tentacles will attempt to grab whatever they can and draw it into the space behind spaces. The number of tentacles is 1D20X1D20 – and they each have N Hit Points, where N is the number of living beings in their line of “vision”. Each will attempt to grapple a person in their line of “vision” – for grappling purposes their Strength and Armor are equal to their individual Hit Points.

10 – The caster overloads and their eyes pop out and dangle on their cheeks – their rectum prolapses – their knee and shoulder joints dislocate – and then the spell takes effect.

11 – Oh man there's a place somewhere where you are on display and they saw you and they saw what you did and what you did was from there and it comes from everywhere and what you did was not supposed to happen and a lot of people lose bets they had on another team and now you have some angry welchers and prospective gamblers from somewhere else taking more interest in you.

12 – The caster takes on the form of the counter – and is now that material/energy/device/concept – but with their mind intact. Other mechanical effects and logistically important details will be up to the referee.
