Room 137

137 – Domed Conservatory

There is a doorway to the north - the door is wrought-iron bars, with a iron door-handle – it is closed and unlocked.

There is a doorway to the west- the door is wrought-iron bars, with a iron door-handle – it is closed and locked.

This room’s ceiling stretches far - about 350 feet up rounded down at a curve due to the domed ceiling.

Sun falls down from the top, cascading down a domed ceiling engineered to cast the light from a 3’ hole in the center of the dome.

It is decorated with radial lines, if one were to get very close to these lines, they would see that they are prayers in a long-lost language.

Situated in the center of the room is an elaborate spiral staircase – with wrought railing. The staircase has small walkway levels every 25’ – for a total of 17 small metal balcony levels.

Covering the spiraling metal are vines – hundreds of kinds – with hundreds of flowers in different stages. Fluttering around the space are thousands of butterflies, hundreds of species are present.

Each level has something there -

1- A bag lies empty, cracked due to sun exposure.

2- A pair of hedgeclippers, rusted and forgotten – they adorn a corner, nearly fallen off the tier.

3- There is a medium sized table here with curious burned patterns.

4- There is a small table here.

5- There is a magnifying glass sitting on the floor here – at certain hours it reflects the sun and creates the distinct burns on 3 – this was recently left here.

6- There is a hand sized magnet – fairly powerful – stuck to the railing here – a search roll is required to find it.

7- A sun-bleached and dew-cracked notebook sits on the ground – filled with notes of times and scientific names of both butterfly and vine – there are also many hastily done sketches.

8- A small wooden box containing pins is left here – there are many colors – the appear to be the sort of pins for butterfly cataloging.

9- Several metal chairs sit here.

10- There is a pitcher of warm water here – it will make any drinkers sick even though it is closed.

11- When the player/s get to this level – huge swarm of butterflies will be congregating on something – it is a long dead person, a sunbleached skeleton – when the players approach it the butterflies will scatter.

12- Monkey droppings are all over this level – and an ?ape? femur bone.

13- There is a mounted telescope here.

14- From this level, someone standing on a ladder or stool or chair could look out the dome – and see the light, the clouds, the sky.

If they were to leave, they would find themselves halfway in both places until their form leaves the hypogeal enigma – at which point they can no longer go back – and are trapped where the light comes from – a faraway land.

Have a town, biome, adventures ready here – it is an entirely new locale connected by magic to the dome – a magical trick just for light.

Investigation in the town will reveal that long ago – potentially only in records or in elder’s recollections – a wizard was a common visitor/player/participant/leader here – this may lead back to the enigma, or inform them of why/what/how it came to be – it can also inform players about Eileen.

This also applies to players who fly above 35’ in the park, field, and night sky rooms, though it will be different places.

The room is roughly 15X15 feet, each hallways/passage in and out is around 5 feet wide but the ceiling goes up 350 feet.
