Come to Life

Come to Life by Young Fathers!

The VaM-style spell today is Come to Life- the title coming from this song by the Young Fathers.

Their music is all good, and this song is so unbelievably powerful and wonderful - their performance of it makes all the difference.

I also love Sister, Rumbling, and Shame - Those are some of their best tracks!

Their music is ancient and primal and freshly minted and shockingly clear despite muddiness and bass and accents and strange words and movement and it just rocks so much.
It is one of me and my mother's favorites, so I will always love it especially.

Here are the lyrics!

The nature is nurture
In response to this amicable lecture
Could it be written underneath the deckchair?
Play fair
False pretenses
Underhanded tactics
Undermine your mind
Add the balance to the debt
When you hear the bells chime
Suck up noses
Retract slowly
Detach the slack slogan
Pick up only

I heard it in a monologue
Reconsideration in a motorway Travelodge
Stand up, rip your honors off
History, survivor of the cannon balls
Mother doesn't sleep well if I'm not in town
She couldn't give a fuck if the exchange rate is down
So come to the rope in the service of hope
Gather all the children and head for the coast

Come to life, you're dead
Don't you go in there
Come to life, you're dead
Don't you go in there

Just before the daytime let's go fuck it up
Ch-ch-ch-ch-chop it up and put it your pot

I see some hair up in the leather-black clouds

Come up from behind it so he doesn't get caught

Tell him 'bout the visions and your feelings and the guns
If you come to a decision
You can come to a decision, He do it or not, Or not, Or not

Daily necessities, tangled by a safety net
Fixed term penalties, stocks on the internet
Paying for a green card, starting off at Bucharest
Talking to my mother
Send another cheque
Philosophical bullshit is the shit I resurrect
Smoke a weaker substance
And I suck a Nicorette
And mixing, almost there
Answer, before you say yes
Honestly

Come to life, you're dead
Don't you go in there
Come to life, you're dead
Don't you go in there

Don't you go, don't you go, don't you go

don't you go

come to life, you're dead

don't you go

 don't you go

 don't you go

 don't you go

Just before the daytime let's go fuck it up (come to life, you're dead)
Ch-ch-ch-ch-chop it up and put it your pot

I see some hair up in the leather-black clouds (come to life, you're dead)

Come up from behind it so he doesn't get caught

Come to life you're dead

don't you go in there

And here is the spell's effects!

Come to Life

Duration: Permanent

Range: Touch

The caster touches a dead person – who must have at least 70% of their body intact, though bits can be piled up or slapped in approximate place if they were torn off – and the dead person returns to full health, and comes to life.

This spell always has a chance to miscast.

Miscast Table (Roll Secretly!)

1 – A priest saw the spell being cast in his dreams, the largest religion will now be on a witch hunt for the caster and their companions, with stakes and torches and swords.

2 – A king saw the spell being cast in his dreams, and now all of his men and women will be searching for the caster and if found, will attempt to force or coerce the caster into reviving someone – the recently deceased queen. If she is resurrected, her bloody reign will devastate the land and its’ peoples, who will hate those who brought her back to the world of the living.

3 – A queen saw the spell being cast in her dreams, and will search you out – she wants her advisor brought back from death. If he is brought back, the group that assassinated him will be after the caster and their companions, seeking to kill them.

4 – A witch saw the spell being cast – she will attempt to capture the caster and their companions. She will send servants, criminals, animals, homnunculi, and whatever else will serve her to capture the party. After that, something horrible will happen to them.

5 – A priestess saw the spell being cast in her dreams, the largest religion will now be on a holy quest to capture and convert the players to their religion.

6 – An angel observed the spell being cast, they will locate and capture the resurrected being, the caster, and any witnesses to the spell. They will be taken to heaven and judged.

7 – A devil observed the spell being cast, they will locate and torment the resurrected person – then give them the power, by whatever means, to furnish evil deeds.

8An entire nearby town’s population saw the spell being cast in their dreams, who will now have many opinions and actions directed at the caster and anybody present for the casting of the spell.

9A cult leader saw the spell being cast in their dreams, the cult will now be on a mission to capture and convert the players to their cult.

10A lich saw the spell being cast in their dreams, and will attempt to capture and use the caster to revive themselves. Which will be catastrophic if successful.

11A horrible villain saw the spell being cast in their dreams, and will attempt to bring some horrible plot to fruition, a plan that will be very bad for the party.

12Roll twice, the two results are working together.

If one of these is rolled a second time, make up a new one!
