Whiteout
Whiteout by Warpaint
The VaM-style spell today is Whiteout- the title coming from this song by Warpaint - There is also a live recording from KEXP, which is really excellent here.
Here is some definitions of Whiteout!
a blizzard, especially in polar regions, that reduces visibilities to near zero.
a loss of color vision due to rapid acceleration, often before a loss of consciousness
Here are the lyrics!
You wouldn't know it but you're really in your prime
Is there a
question not answered in your mind?
Before you know the answer,
you're running out of time
There is an anchor,
I'll put it in my heart
You gotta do what's right for you, and
do it from the start
Even when they wonder, they wonder where
you are
You know what I
want
To know the secrets in your heart
And now I keep it
low
There's just some things I don't need to know
Don't go
tonight
Don't go tonight
You oughta know it,
but it happens all the time
Is there a question? You treat it
like a crime
And in the walls you weaken and up the walls you
climb
Oh, why is it not
all that it seems?
You lock it up so easily
I wanna believe
all that you say to me
Oh, you know what I
want
To rip it open and pull it out
And we'll take it
low
There's just some things I don't need to know
Don't go
tonight
Don't go tonight
White out
You
want it, you wanted it out
White out
You want it, you want
it all out
White out
You want it, you wanted it out
White
out
Tonight
Don't go tonight
You're talking
suddenly, though I'm transparent for you
You like on my skin,
always I skip
If you're feeling, touch you
I'm focused on
the run
I'm focused on the run
But I feel like you wanted
me to
Whiteout
Duration: 10 rounds
Range: 30” radius from caster per round elapsed
The affected area is filled with flurries of snow – obscuring vision to nil, and anyone uncovered will get cold quite quickly. The snow does not melt or settle, it simply flies and dances – making anyone in the radius essentially blind.
Miscast Table (Roll this secretly)
1 – Only the caster is affected by the spell.
2 – The spell is colder than normal – anyone in the radius, including the caster, will take 1 cold damage a round unless they are wearing winter clothing or equivalent. They take this damage secretly, due to numbness – and will only notice/be affected if they hit zero or try to feel their hands.
3 – The snow does accumulate – making the area of effect potentially icy, snowy, slushy, or full of water – depending on locale.
4 – Anyone affected by the spell has their vision reduced after the spell – they are snowblind and have reduced or zero vision for 1d4 days following the spell’s affects.
5 – The winds that move the snow are stronger than normal, the referee gets three castings of Gust of Wind a round to affect anything in the area of the spell.
6 – Anybody in the affect of the spell’s movement is affected as if they are in High Winds or Precipitation. (See Page 39 in Rules and Magic.)
7 – This roll is considered results 2 and 6.
8 – The spell’s duration is increased to 30 rounds.
9 – The spell’s range is instead 30” – 60” – 90” – 120” – 150” – 180” – 150” – 120” – 90” – 60” (Instead of steadily increasing) Each time a living thing is contained in the spell’s radius for the first time – they must save vs paralyze or lose their next action. Each time a living thing leaves the spell’s radius, they get one additional action that round.
10 – The swirling snow is malignant – and gets to roll initiative. As an attack, it may roll on the miscast table, or may attempt to paralyze someone with cold in it’s radius of effect.
11 – This roll is considered results 5, 6, and 8.
12 – The spell never ends, it just keeps expanding.
