Dream in Blue

Dream In Blue by Los Lobos

The VaM-style spell today is Dream in Blue- the title coming from this song by Los Lobo.

I have listened to Kiko and Colossal Head from a very early age - and a little of Las Pistola Y El Corazon.

There will be a spell from Kiko and Colossal Head - I love the music of Los Lobos, and nearly every track from Kiko could be a spell!

Dream in Blue, Wake Up Dolores, Angels with Dirty Faces, That Train Don't Stop Here, Kiko and The Lavender Moon, Saint Behind the Glass, Reva's House, When the Circus Comes, Arizona Skies, Short Side of Nothing, Two Janes, Wicked Rain, Whiskey Trail, Just a Man, Peace, Rio de Tenampa - These all could be spells!

Here is some definitions of Dream, and Blue!

I choose these three:

the sky or sea, or the unknown.

(of a person or mood) melancholy, sad, or depressed.

Here are the lyrics!

Peeked inside a open door
Looked around, don't know what for
Way too bright, could hardly see
Oh no, can't believe it
Oh yeah, could almost see it
In a dream in blue

I flew around with shiny things
When I spoke I seemed to sing
High above, floating far away
Oh no, can't believe it
Oh yeah, could almost feel it
In a dream in blue
In a dream in blue
Sock it to me one time

Woke up laughing in my bed
Silly smile stuck on my head
Am I real or still in a dream
Oh no, can't believe it
Oh yeah, could almost see it
Oh no, can't believe it
Oh yeah, could almost feel it
In a dream in blue
In a dream in blue

Ok, here is the spell's effects!

Dream In Blue

Duration: Instantaneous

Range: Caster

This spell, when cast – reveals all the dreams the caster dreamt during their last sleep – allowing them to be remembered.

This spell always has a chance to miscast.

The more it is cast, the better and more important the caster’s dreams may become, slowly becoming precognitive or premonitory, along with other effects.

Track this spell each time it is cast – and the following effects are added as thresholds are met.

After 32 castings: 25% of the time, an element of the dream is something that happened or will happen.

After 72 castings: Casting this spell also grants an additional spell slot for the day.

After 302 castings: The caster of Dream in Blue now dreams lucidly at will, and permanently gains one wisdom.

After 388 casting: There is a 50% chance that the dream is something that happened or will happen.

After 412 castings: Casting this spell also grants three additional spell slots for the day.

After 617 castings: If the caster dies at any point after this threshold is met, they instead fall into a dream, and they will have a small serialized adventure at the start of each session – in their dream-world.

Each additional 200 castings beyond this grant one spell slot that day.

Miscast Table

1 – The dreams were not pleasant – and you wish you had not remembered them, lose a spell slot for the day.

2 – You feel floaty and strange – Instead of your normal hit points for the day, your hit points are your spell slots, when you get damaged you lose that many, and they act as normal hit points for the duration of this day.

3 – The dreams revealed something you should not know – at some point during the day, this will manifest as a situation becoming worse when you are involved – the first failed roll you make is considered a critical failure.

4 – You feel as drenched in dreams as a cat in a storm – you are at disadvantage and are groggy all day, detached as an old noble and as strange as a drunk scholar.

5 – You fall asleep, and will not wake until 24 hours have passed.

6 – Some part of the dream has become real – it has split off and now fends for itself -  you do not know what part until you encounter it.

7 – You may no longer comprehend languages in the real world, they look like strange shifting symbols – the only thing you can read is magic – But in your dreams you can read just fine.

8 – You learn a spell in your dreams – it parades and dances in your head – it is made of words you do not understand, concepts alien and strange. You must cast it in order to free the spell slot it occupies, like an addicted squatter. You have zero clue what effects it will have. (Referee chooses the spell and its’ targets)

9 – You realize, with a sinking dread – that the previous day was a dream – this reverses all progress from the last day for the entire party, and they suddenly wake from their sleep before last – wherever they were.

10 – You realize, with a sinking dread – that the previous year was a dream – this reverses all progress from the last year for the entire party, and they suddenly wake from their sleep a year ago – wherever they were.

11 – Reverse the waking world and dreaming – you are now real in your dreams, and in the real-world you are but a dream. If this person is killed in the real world, they will wake up, in their dreams – from which they will return, but if killed in their dreams, they die forever. If rolled again, reverse it.

12 – You fall asleep, and will not wake until 2D8 weeks have passed.
