Ok, here is the spell's effects!

Dive

Duration: 3 Seconds per caster level

Range: Caster

The caster looks insane – leaping, dropping, plunging into nothingness they leave here to a level deeper.

Dive takes the caster from here to somewhere else for a brief moment – and coupled with a movement of the casters choice – this allows movement that would normally be impossible.

In essence, the caster can dive into the ground and tunnel through it – they can stumble through a wall – they can fall through the floor.

The caster sees the world go black, as dark as the bottom of the ocean.

There are things in this sea – this great vastness, but due to the speed of the spell, they rarely meet the caster.

This spell can be quite disorienting, because to others the caster makes a sudden movement and vanishes – reappearing seconds later – and to the caster they make a fast move and go blind for seconds at a time, reappearing elsewhere.

If the caster can swim – they may be able to propel themselves better, but this is up to the referee's discretion – normally the input movement is what is meant to move the caster through the water.

If they do not move far enough to escape what they were passing though, they just get stuck.

Miscast Table (Roll this secretly!)

1 – Something in the sea latched onto the caster! Have an aquatic horror latch onto them – make it’s discovery extremely unpleasant.

2 – Something in the sea saw the caster – it will follow them and wait for their next plunge! Have an aquatic nightmare ready for the next casting of Dive.

3 – Something was left behind in the sea! They lose a random item to the black depths.

4 – The spell must be recast to leave the sea – by that time they will have drifted far and not noticed. Roll 6D8 +3 for the amount of seconds, and drift them in some direction.

5 – There is a ruin in the water! The caster sees it – and there is a great appeal – a deep curiosity. They do not know this – Do not tell them – they subconsciously dream of it – and sometime soon (Ref’s discretion) the urge will be so strong to see it that they will recast Dive and swim frantically in the ruin’s direction. If they ever explore it – the ref should be ready.

6 – The water evokes deep memories of the womb – the next time the caster is hurt seriously, physically – emotionally – mentally – they must save vs magic to not cast Dive in a protean attempt to escape.

7 – What leaves the sea is a facsimile – a grinning leering version of the caster filled with fish and tentacles and eyes and barnacles. It looks normal – but if the character is ever killed – it will melt into sea creatures. This substitution may be detected, and should be very subtly hinted at.

8The next time Dive is cast – it is cast as if the caster is 17th level and something in the sea will be there, have an aquatic nightmare ready.

9There are bodies in the water! The caster sees them – and there is a deep phobia – an innate fear. They do not know this – Do not tell them – they subconsciously dream of it – and sometime soon (Ref’s discretion) the urge will be so strong to avoid the bodies that they will recast Dive and swim frantically in the opposite direction of the bodies.

10The next time Dive is cast – it is cast as if the caster is 13th level and there is a structure – a gossamer pearl palace, elegant and green grey in the subdued glow of jellyfish. Have a pearl palace ready to explore, albeit briefly.

11They see something there – something they cannot rationalize – they cannot even remember it.

It will escape the next time they cast Dive, like a rip in a bag. When they see it, they will die. Have an aquatic horror prepared.

12Something in the sea impregnated the caster! Have an aquatic horror hatch inside them– make it’s discovery extremely unpleasant when it bursts out in 1D6 hours.
