Sapphire

Sapphire- by Bonobo

The VaM-style spell today is Sapphire- the title coming from this song by Bonobo.

The lyrics are below, though I concentrated on the material properties of sapphire more than the lyrics or album art or anything.

Oh, and there will be 3 other Bonobo songs  in the future - his music is among my favorites!
Enjoy!

Oh leaves fall so slow on the pile
On this pile
Oh leaves fall so slow on the pile

Oh leaves fall so slow on the pile
On this pile
Oh leaves fall so slow on the pile

Oh leaves fall so slow on the pile
Oh leaves fall
Oh leaves fall so slow on the pile

On this pile
Oh leaves fall so slow on the pile

Here is the Spell's Effects!

Sapphire

Duration: The caster chooses an amount of rounds- this is the duration – this is also their negative AC modifier during the duration of the spell

Range: Variable

This spell oscillates through Beam, Window, and Star – so each round the spell is maintained, the caster chooses to go forward one, or back one in the list of three.

Each has different effects, and when the spell is initially cast, the caster chooses which to start from.

Beam – A beam of brilliant blue light emanates from the casters forehead – it will slice through anything inorganic with no resistance, and extends from their forehead 100’. Anything organic is unaffected.

Window – A pale sheet of crystal projects from the caster’s open mouth like a spotlight 40’, and the base of the cone has a radius of 10’. The sapphire crystal has AC 18 – but is still transparent, and may not be evident to would-be attackers.

Star – A sphere of blue shimmering light is originated at a point in line of sight of the caster – this sphere may be swapped with the caster at will during any point, out of initiative order, from now until the casters next turn or oscillation. They disappear after the spell ends.

The caster must oscillate at the start of each turn, and each time they take damage during the spells duration.

Miscast Table

1 – The negative AC that is normally just for the duration of the spell is permanent.

2 – The beam can only cut organic matter.

3 – When the caster oscillates they also lose one additional AC each oscillation. This is not permanent.

4 – The caster screams and writhes – the spell has been directed inwardly! Roll a D4 -

1 – Beam, the caster cannot see and has a splitting headache. This lasts the whole duration. 2 – Window, the caster creates a sapphire window inside of their body, which slices them in half. This is very likely to be lethal. 3 – Star, the caster creates the star inside of themselves, and they immediately teleport inside themselves, exploding with a squelch, shooting their vis everywhere. This is Lethal. 4 – The caster visibly changes, with points protruding and joints popping – their bones crystallize a little, granting them a +1 natural AC. This is the full extent of the spell if this result is rolled.

5 – The stars remain where they were placed, and from now on, anytime the caster is dealt damage, they will swap places with one of their stars, no matter the distance.

6 – If the caster oscillates from window to beam – there is a split second where the beam actually collides with the window – refracting the beam everywhere towards the caster – which will cut up their possessions, and the possessions of anyone nearby them.

7 – If the caster oscillates from star to beam – there is a split second where the beam actually collides with the star – creating a miniature supernova. Everything in a 30’ radius of the star’s death is atomized.

8 – When the caster swaps with a star – they create a clone of themselves at the star’s location instead. Treat this as a casting of the Clone spell from Rules & Magic.

9 – The spell initially seems to not work – but in actuality the effects are as clear as air – connecting with beam requires a ranged attack roll – Window is completely invisible – and the Stars are invisible.

10 – The duration is tripled.

11 – When the star is oscillated to, the point does not get originated – instead the caster is swapped with a star in space. The star being teleported here will likely kill everyone present, and maybe more, I am not sure.

12 – If the caster creates a star, they astrally project into it and may move as the star, and may still swap their body with it at any point, out of initiative order, once each round – the spell ends after the normal duration, but they are stuck in the star for its duration.
