Cavern 65

 Cavern 65

Big cavern today.

Edit is a whole adventure location/module. Total height is 6073 feet. The tower is 3160 feet.

FAIR WARNING: THERE IS SOME MILD NUDITY IN THE ART CONTAINED BELOW

cavern art by me, other art mostly done by @SamuelThomasCu2 and color and a couple drawings by me.

General Details of Rooms

Stairs are carved stone, and there are many wooden platforms and small ladders and staircase like library book ladders everywhere, so getting around is not too difficult. The tower is very large and tall, and the rooms spacious, some more spacious than is possible. The walls are of stone, and are kept very clean. The ground in most rooms is either white tile or wooden flooring. If different it will be mentioned. All over the place are tinderboxes and candles, some lit, some not, and you can assume in any given room for there to be at least 1d6 candles in various states and at least one tinderbox somewhere. All rooms are connected with oak doors. All have locks, but unless otherwise noted they are not locked.

What happened?

What essentially occurred is simple. A birthday party was thrown for Prince Vigdis by Lymaeus, and all the guests and inhabitants were blindsighted by a carefully planned magical attack once the party was almost over. The curse has rendered all adult humans into children with none of their previous prowess, only the slight inkling of knowledge or interest in their eventual vocation or role in the world. This means Lymaeus is still magically powerful and intelligent, but not able to use spells. It also means that almost everyone besides him is just messing around like children left to their own devices, and acting like a normal child would in a situation of this magnitude. The Red and Blue Devils, the Pair Of Trolls, The Trio Of Cherubs, Behrouz, and the Candle Construct know not to attack the children, who they recognize as allies of the wizard, their master. However, adventurers may be asked questions and if they respond improperly may be attacked. They are just as aimless as the children without their master’s instruction, and wander around.

Stats for NPCs!

A curse has been leveled on tower, everyone in it has been turned into children if they were adult. The reverse is also true, and so the only child and some of his presents have also been reversed age-wise.

First name is their full adult name, the second how they will say it, and third is what they were as adults.

Hooks!

The party or some of the party was invited to the birthday party, If children they are some of Prince Vigdises only friends. This also means they could become adults for the adventure, and would have no memory of the events that occurred.

They may be employed by Lymaeus, and if so, they may be children.

This could be encountered deep in the cave, which is after all, where it is located. This would be a daunting place for cave spelunkers fresh from the underdark, but would also be a rich store of many incredibly valuable things underground.

One fun thing to do is split some of the party into late arrivals that arrive as adults, and some as already in attendance that become children and do not remember what happened or why these new people seem to recognize them.

7 Laboratory-

A child with glasses feverishly is doing something. The wizard! He is attempting to create some reversal spell or potion, but is confused and worried, working with undue haste.

The laboratory is extremely advanced, and is filled with all the normal and more.

Lymaeus Lord of Light

15th level wizard. Currently a child with slight magical power and high intelligence.

Make him yourself, pick spells you think are powerful, and make him as you would a normal character.

All his spells will have additional aspects of light or heat, and make some up to do with light and candles. The creatures and guests will respect and aid him, and he knows his tower well.

As a child he does not know what do do, where he is, or anything save that something has gone wrong, and he could solve it if he only knew how. If directed properly, the child version of Lymaeus can command many denizens of the tower and potentially could locate and produce the components required to reverse the curse, but in his current panicked state his is unable to do anything but feverishly work in this lab.

8 Clothing Closet “jungle”- Several lost children wander a dark and lonely grove of “trees”, which consist of  hat and coat racks, clothes on hanging lines, shelves and other receptacles for clothing.

It is about 1 mile square, with the entrance being a wooden entrance door that opens and allows people in or out, but blinks around every ten minutes. There are three doors that do this, the entrance that goes towards room 7, once that goes to the small dead end, and one that goes towards room 9.

There are small cloth moths, denim bats, black fleece birds, suede squirrels, and one velvet wolf.

The moths bats and birds and squirrels are irrelevant statwise, but will flee if approached quickly.

The Velvet Wolf however…

Velvet Wolf A lanky wolf in ragged red velvet. Quiet as a slight breeze, and as vicious as an alpha.

9 Scrying Chamber “crystal chamber” currently tuned to an evil looking castle in a dark and snowy moor , which is Gauthburt’s castle, far away and long ago.It is dark and hazy, because the concentration of the last viewer has long since passed.

Concentrating on a location you have seen will allow you to use this mirror covered chamber to see a vision of it currently. Concentrating hard on how you saw it can make it appear as it used to in time. The actual room is completely covered from floor to ceiling in crystal mirrors.

12 A fountain – A child is swimming in it. The tiling is blue and brown and white floral patterns. The water is fresh and flows happily. A key to the Rose Garden is in the fountain grate at the bottom of the pool. There are three empty pedestals where the Cherub Trio normally sits.

A frizzy haired girl reads books at a small table inbetween two cases in a corner, and a couple boys are playing chess on another table near the middle of the room.

That book will then give an answer pertinent to its subject matter 1d6 times on a search roll with INT modifier. 14 The Wizards' chamber-

Currently being slept in by a wizard- the nemesis of the real one.

Gauthburt is a 17th level wizard who is currently in a magical sleep induced by the bed in the center of the room.

Make him yourself, pick spells you think are powerful, and make him as you would a normal character.

He additionally will have a swapping rod (3 charges), a red carpet that unfolds and then closes, taking what was contained within it and placing it inside his castle, far away and long ago, and any other magical devices or items you find interesting or necessary.

If he awakes he will continue to plunder and attempt to take control of the tower.

In the room is a magical bed that Lymaeus alone can wake up from, anyone else who falls asleep in the bed cannot wake up while still on the bed. There is a curious metal bowl of constantly liquid wax, and it is from this that the Candle Construct will reform if killed.

There is a copy of Midnight Oil on the bedstand. There is a gargoyle shaped chamber pot. If commanded, it becomes a HD 1 HP 4 Speed 130’ Flying Armor 15 Morale 12 Attack : d6 claw creature. It will perform tasks dictated in a sing-song fashion.

There are several maps of faraway continents. There is a secret compartment in the dresser full of socks and underwear, Search roll will find it with drawers open. It is a spellbook of magic particular to candles and light being cast. There is a small cabinet on the wall full of various bottles of liquor.

Hanging on the bedpost from a small bent nail is a keyring. There is one key for every room except the rose garden. The gardeners will have one if reverted to adults, and there are two rose-garden keys lost in the tower.

26 cube-marked encounters- Roll a D30, when the players enter a area with a cube symbol in it.

On rolls of 27-30 reroll. Dunno, sorry, had limited space in the tower.

1 A gently swaying candle chandelier- Falls if anybody stops underneath its direct trajectory, smash into them and go out, then will reverse and reattach, relighting and reversing all damage done to the person or persons hit. It will do this ad infinitum. A direct hit is 1d8 damage, split among all hit.

Tinker rolls can redirect to swap hot and cold, or fix broken pipes. A pipe is broken and is slowly trickling water into a small puddle around a drain. Normally the Red and Blue Devils are here to keep certain pipes cold and certain pipes hot, but since the wizard has been cursed his hold over them is currently null.
