Inversion Tarot

This is a draft of a tarot deck I am working on - All the art is very temporary, and there is lots of meanings and symbols to be added and defined

Fool becomes the:

Genius

The use of disparate elements or hidden connections – focus – determination – overwhelming hardship

- unusual decisions forge great results – a hacker, an expert in the field, a magnet for trouble

inventions, unusual drugs, music CDs, impromptu tools

The Magician becomes:

The Scientist

Careful study and recording of life – discovery after effort and preparation – technology – serious

people, pharmacists, a very subdued date – serial killers

syringes, glassware, scrubs, textbooks

The High Priestess becomes:

The Worshipers

Supporters, fame, infamy, foolish people – systems and particular clothing, customs, or manners - fans

or loyal animals – stadiums and churches

candles, bible pamphlets, autographs, magazines

The Empress becomes:

The Pupil

Something to learn, something new that will soon become normal – schools, jobs, and skills – raw

materials or supplies – bulk stores or foreign markets, auctions

erasers - earplugs - headphones - chapstick

The Emperor becomes:

The Servant

Doing things for someone else, being beneath or below, lurking danger, subtle use of power or growing

knowledge – minimum wage workers and city workers, butlers, assistants, nannies

Pacifiers, high-vis clothes - beaten shoes - energy drinks

The Hierophant becomes:

The Black Knight

Killing or harming, looking for weakness, a jaded person or a dangerous foe – assassins, terrorists,

fundamentalists

methamphetamine - piano wire - "murdered out" cars - lawnmowers

The Lovers becomes:

The Enemies

Contention, at odds with people you were once close with – stymied, things occur at different times

than was expected – conflict and confrontation – less sleep than was expected

bullets - knives - pepper spray

The Chariot becomes:

The End of the Road

You must reverse or stay where you are – realization that there is no progress forward – ending up

somewhere different or less than what was expected – cul-de-sacs, basements, rooftops -

Family photos in frames - Damaged furniture - grandma's house -

Strength becomes:

Weakness

Hardship, innocence, beauty, fine things, art, emotions, something powerful being underutilized or

misunderstood – florists, musicians, painters, poets – fragility, ephemerality

Statues - Coffee table books - musical instruments of any kind

The Hermit becomes:

The Socialite

Friends and groupings, gatherings and relationships, no secrets, things are passed around –

communication and information flowing freely – remembering people and making them feel

remembered

Cheese - Wine - jewelry or watches on nightstands

The Wheel of Fortune becomes:

The Calendar

Holidays, coincidence, plans, careful notation: medicines, non-hostile animals, preferences, picky

people, recipes

and files – time flowing in a structured way – waiting rooms and lines of people

Hospital Paperwork - Library Cards - Empty birth Control packaging

Justice becomes:

Inequity

Nosy people, racists, bigots, established structures imposing boundaries or causing harm – politicians,

bad teachers, bureaucrats

Public transport tickets - Store Security Devices - Styrofoam - cigarette butts

The Hanged Man becomes:

The Risen Woman

Rebirth from certain doom – new clothes or a new home – something going so wrong that you realize

that the only way for you to stop would have been for you to fail - moving or quitting

Death becomes:

Life

Plants, old places, rain and animals making sound, fog and rocks, food – sounds in general

Moldy Food - Water Damaged Paper - mushrooms in any context

Temperance becomes:

Indulgence

Sexual relations – secrets or shame – something slowly building or slipping away

Candy wrappers and alcohol bottles - sketchy convenience store supplements

The Devil becomes:

The Angel

Something small that saves you, helpful strangers – details, something that is obvious but is taken for

granted –

phone numbers, coat hangers, a hammer, maps

The Tower becomes:

The Hut

A place away from home, temporary living situations, somewhere you have been so often you get

familiar, a well worn route to and from somewhere – work friends, family pets, secret resting places

The Star becomes:

The Cipher

Finding something you thought you lost, or something you made that you forgot about – changes that

were gradual on friends or family – the beauty of body language, elegance of movement, religion –

books and how they pass down from person to person – repetition, the self – processes that become habit

Bibles - Bookmarks - Lost notes and grocery lists

The Moon becomes:

The Sea

Abundance, fear of the unknown, a task requiring equipment or knowledge, large places, vastness –

unassailability – one thing that seems to most people to be many things – unity

A bag of marbles - paperweights - plastic bottles

The Sun becomes:

The Darkness

Warmth, comfort, motherhood, ancient things – symbols and caves – inevitability – deeply symbolic

things – the occult – language and how it forms

Flip-flops, scented Candles, stones, bowls

Judgment becomes:

Hesitation

Animals in the road, confusion, embarrassment, prolonged suffering, torture, the self, internal dialogue,

a decision that has more behind it than seems obvious – struggles or fights – silence or quiet places –

childhood and elderly years

The World becomes:

The Room

A place you sleep in, bathrooms, bedrooms, closets – stored objects, familiarity – saying goodnight,

kisses, hugs, cleaning up after yourself, cooking

Stuffed animals - wallpaper, lamps, amenities

Swords become:

Feathers

Words and intentions – not actions – just the thoughts or feelings behind actions
