A gigantic toadlike creature - the size of a hippo, slimy and green - has four huge bullfrog style sacks on back - 

its' tongue can extend and grab people to "eat them"

Here's the thing - in each sack is a trapped encounter

and when it eats someone - it swaps them for something in a sack.

So then it leaves the encounter, it flees -

leaving some random thing from a sack.

 Oh - and the person it eats is in stasis - locked away in the sack - 

it eats their potential energy - the things they could have been doing if they weren't in a sack. It's hide, if wrapped around objects or people - prevents them from atrophying - but they also cannot do anything while preserved in this fashion.



Normal/common one is green  - there are also red, yellow, and blue beasts - these eat a different kind of energy.

Yellow Beasts (Impulse Beasts) are nearly identical but while in the sack you do not get put into stasis - instead you are psychically put into a imagined world and the beasty eats your electrical impulses triggered by the dreams and visions it beams into your head. This means it only wants thinking creatures. It feeds you with a kind of umbilicus. It's spinal and brain fluid is a mega-powerful hallucinogen.

Red Beasts (Love Beasts) consume the projected emotion at your absence - they can magically detect and consume the emotion when people actively think about you and miss you - so they often are trying to locate and consume the most loved person/s they can. While inside the beast - there is actually a small dry space - and the beast will make a marked attempt to get the "prisoners" furniture, food, anything they ask for that it can find - it has to keep them alive. It's spinal and brain fluid are a mega-powerful love potion.

Blue Beasts (Pious Beasts) consume religious devotion - so it will seek out and consume those who are pious and eat the energy they exude that is intended for god or gods - their prayers cannot reach their deities - thusly the Blue Beasts skin can be used to hide from gods. While inside the beast - there is actually a small dry space - and the beast will make a marked attempt to get the "prisoners" furniture, food, anything they ask for that it can find - it has to keep them alive.
