Spell #91 Needle Bugs
Magic User Level 4
Duration- Five actions
Range- Caster
Needle
Bugs- Allows the caster the ability to walk on water, sting with
touch, or limited flight for their next five actions. The sting induces save vs poison or be paralyzed for a turn. The flight is a gliding flight of 20 feet up, then 50' of 3 feet drop per foot gone horizontally. The walk on water is as if the water is normal ground.
So what is this spell good for? Walking on water, incapacitating enemies, and gliding/flying.
I think this calls for a counterspell, something like what the prey of natural needle bugs do - breaking up the surface tension in the water. A spell that makes a "trap" in a specific place on a water surface, "swallowing" anything that floats there, a water-walking wizard, a small boat? A ship, perhaps, if the spell is powerful enough?
ReplyDeleteI wanted to incorporate these three kinds bugs into a spell. Nepidae- Which have a poisonous bite, Gerridae- Which walk on water, and Cephalotes- Which are gliding ants. I used the name "Needle Bugs" because it sounded the coolest! I love the idea of a spell like your idea- I would Call it Sink- and it would be the opposite of Float- A first level spell I made, except I would change the spell to be 3rd or 4th level and make it allow the caster to make anything line of sight buoyant, or, as the reverse spell Sink, heavy and not buoyant. https://systematicrules.blogspot.com/2021/10/spell-16-float.html I think the spell I also made for first level, Trap, could be an interesting interpretation to allow your idea, where the caster physically scoops water and leaves it until someone bumps into it- maybe a really heavy object could be suspended with Trap and increased strength, then when a ship hits it, the weight would drop and cause suction right there and pull down. Great Ideas, Thanks!
